On 29 October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the Ayushman Bharat pradhanmantri Jan arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)to all persons aged 70 years of above on the occasion of Diwali. The initiative announced during the celebration of dhanvantari jayanti and Ayurveda day, provides free health Insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh to eligible senior citizen set any empanelled hospital. During an event at the all India institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi, PM Modi distributed Ayushman Vaya Vandana Cards to beneficiaries.
The scheme aims to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for senior citizens regardless of their socio- economic status. As maintained on PIB’s social media account, the extension sets new benchmarks in healthcare inclusiveness for elderly citizens, leading to a significant reduction in family expenses and reducing health related concerns of senior citizens and their families.
